Permeability Test Results- Lower Montague Site
We have compiled the permeability test results from the Lower Montague Site. For your assignment, you can include all of the permeability test results, even if you did not do the testing.
At Lower Montague, most groups found that their shallow permeability tests passed, however a few did not.
It is especially important to use a light touch when augering a hole for a shallow test (ie. 45cm or less). Remember the “two-finger, two-turn rule”.
The soil in the upper horizons is typically loose, but if you press down hard while augering, you are going to compact the soil which will make the permeability appear lower (worse) than it otherwise might have been.
This could explain why some groups shallow permeability results failed.
So for the purpose of your assignment and soil categorization, you can assume there is at least 30cm of permeable soil at the Lower Montague site, which is supported by the majority of the shallow permeability tests.
The test results can be found in the image below or in Google sheets format by clicking here.
